The Department of History was established in 1967 and currently has three faculty members, Dr. Manoj Shekhar, Dr. Mritunjay Kumar and Dr. Amrita Dutta, all actively involved in research and teaching. The department was founded by the late Dr. B. D. Dubey and the late Dr. K. P. Sahu, both renowned thinkers and contributors to the discipline of History, particularly in Ancient and Medieval history. Their legacy was continued by Dr. Sudarshan Singh and Dr. B. S. Mallick. Presently, the department is thriving under the leadership of Dr. Manoj Shekar. This is evident from the numerous invitations received by the faculties to give keynote addresses at conferences, participate in international and national conferences, and serve as members of Boards of Studies at various universities. They are also involved in many other academic endeavors. The department offers a BA program with major and minor papers, equips students with a diverse skill set and knowledge base that can be applied to various career paths. The department helps in developing valuable skills such as critical thinking, research, writing, and analysis, which are highly transferable and sought after in many professional fields.
