Scholarship Policy

I. Short Title & Commencement

  1. These regulations shall be called the “YSM Scholarship and Free Studentship Policy” 2022 (as amended from time to time).
  2. These Regulations shall come into force with effect from the date of approval by the GBMC of the College.
  3. These regulations are in accordance with the UGC notification and if there is any anomaly, The UGC’s guideline will prevail.

II. Purpose

Yogoda Satsanga Mahavidyalaya (YSM) is committed to providing quality education and adherence to equity, access, and inclusion as well as to advance and disseminate Shri Shri Paramhansha Yogananda Ji's teachings and philosophy. In order to achieve this goal, Yogoda Satsanga Society gives scholarships / awards to the students of Degree, Intermediate, and Vocational Courses, to provide financial assistance to the students, who are in alignment with the spiritual teaching of Shri Shri Paramhansha Yogananda.

Aim:

  1. To reward meritorious students with outstanding performance at the undergraduate level so that they do not face any kind of economic challenges while completing their course.
  2. To provide financial help to socially and economically background students.
  3. To encourage the holistic development of the students and to promote and nurture talent.
  4. To encourage students involved in extracurricular activities like sports.

IV. Scope and Applicability

  1. These Regulations shall cover all scholarships and free studentship that is provided to the students during their stint in the YSM.
  2. ‘Student’ for the purpose of these regulations shall mean a student enrolled for a full-time program of the YSM and shall exclude students enrolled in a part-time or distance learning program of study.

V. Definitions

  1. Scholarship:A financial aid provided to the students for their excellence in performance in different aspects of the YSM’s activities.
  2. Person: Referred herein shall mean a student on the current rolls of the YSM or their parents/guardians.
  3. YSM:Yogoda Satsanga Mahavidyalaya, Jagannathpur, Dhurwa, Ranchi -834004

Note: In these Regulations, wherever ‘he’ and ‘his’ occur, they shall mean to imply ‘he/she’ and ‘his/her’ respectively.

VI. Student Scholarship and Free Studentship Committee

  1. A committee has been constituted to conduct the scholarship test and other related events to finalize the list of the awardees.
  2. The committee constitutes 7 members, with the following composition, namely:
    1. A Professor - Chairperson
    2. Four Professors/Senior Faculty from different departments (CVS, Intermediate, Sports, Yoga etc.) as Members.
    3. One Accounts staff
    4. A non-teaching staff as convener.

VIII. Procedure for Scholarship

  1. Announcement for the Scholarship and Free Studentship Program: The scholarship committee notifies at all spaces (online, offline) about the scholarship examination and different activities that can help in getting the financial aid.
  2. Registration of Students for Scholarship: Eligible candidates for the scholarship register themselves for the respective program in offline mode.
  3. Verification of the Applications: The offline applications of the candidates are verified at two levels by the committee and respective departments.
  4. Examination for Selection of Students: The committee announces the date for the offline examination, which is conducted by the organization itself.
  5. Selection of the Candidates:Candidates are selected on two criteria:
    1. Nomination: Students are nominated by the concerned member of the committee based on their excellent performance in different extra-curricular activities.

    2. Examination: Students are selected based on their performance in the examination conducted by the organization, which is based on different literatures of Shri Shri Paramhansa Yogananda.

      5 Paramahansa Yogananda Scholarship in memory of Sri Sanjay Das On the basis of exam conducted on the book "Autobiography of a Yogi" and "Science of Religion", by the YSM. To one first-year student of BBA/BCA and continue to get till the course is over. (i.e., only one student for three years) 8000*3=24000
      6 Paramahansa Yogananda Scholarship in memory of Sri Rajesh and Santosh Kapoor On the basis of exam conducted on the book "Autobiography of a Yogi" and "Science of Religion", by the YSM. To one first-year student of BBA/BCA and continue to get till the course is over 8000*3=24000
      7 Paramahansa Yogananda Scholarship in memory of Sri Amba Prasad and Shanti Devi On the basis of exam conducted on the book "Autobiography of a Yogi" and "Science of Religion", by the YSM. For two BBA/BCA students, 8,000 each 8000*2=16000
      8 Paramahansa Yogananda Scholarship in memory of C S Mohan On the basis of exam conducted on the book "Autobiography of a Yogi" and "Science of Religion", by the YSM. To one first-year student of BBA/BCA and continue to get till the course is over 8000*3=24000

IX. Exam Pattern

The examination for the scholarship is based on the literary works by Shri Shri Paramhansa Yogananda. The examination is conducted in offline mode with a time period of one hour. The question paper consists of MCQs, Fill in the blanks, and Descriptive types with full marks of 100.

X. Duration of Scholarship

The scholarship provided by the organization through different hands is for a duration ranging from one year to three years.

XI. Disbursement

The disbursement of scholarship and other financial aids provided by the organization is practiced via the instruments of cash or cheques, as and how practical.

XII. General Guidelines

  1. These Scholarships are applicable to undergraduate students.
  2. The scholarship shall not be distributed if there are no eligible applicants.
  3. The decision of the committee in matters related to scholarships shall be final.
  4. The account section shall process the approved sanction of the scholarship and ensure timely disbursement of the scholarship.
  5. The details of the scholarship shall be accounted for periodically and duly audited.
  6. Grievances, if any, shall be addressed by the Grievance Redressal of the Mahavidyalaya.

Annexure I: Paramhansa Yogananda Gunjan Kumar Award

Introduction

The Paramhansa Yogananda Gunjan Kumar Awards are presented annually to deserving students who have attained outstanding sporting achievements and contributed significantly towards sports for YSM. Every year it is given to Two most spectacular and eminent performers in sports in the category of Men and Women. The award comprises “a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 500/-”.

Eligibility

  1. Only a bonafide full-time student who is enrolled in a full-time course in YSM is eligible for Scholarship.
  2. Awardee must be at least 17 years and less than 25 years of age on May 1st in the year of the event.
  3. Attendance should be above 60% in academic classes in the event year.
  4. The student would not be involved in any of the indiscipline acts as enumerated in the student’s bulletin.
  5. Students with year back/semester back are not eligible for it.
  6. Awardee belongs to sports played that are recognized by IOA (Indian Olympic Committee) and AIU (Association of Indian Universities) are only eligible.

Selection

Categories

Category A+: Position holder/medallist in category ‘A’ games.
Category A: Represented India in Olympic Games/World Championship/World Cup/Commonwealth Games/Asian Games/Asian Championship/South Asian Games/Paralympic Games.
Category B+: Position holder/medallist in category ‘B’ games.
Category B: Participation in International Youth/Junior competition/National Games/Federation Games/Senior National/National/Inter Zonal national/Khelo India Games under 21.
Category C+: Position holder/medallist in category ‘C’ games.
Category C: participation in State Competition/District competition/PYKKA/Sansad khel mahotsav Competition.

Tie-Breaker

  1. If there is a tie within the same category, the tie shall be resolved by considering the attendance.
  2. If still a tie, then the seniority in age, i.e., the date of birth of the awardee will be considered.
